"Nel nome di..." Fotografie di culti, tradizioni e culture a Roma
This exhibition, presented by the Wide Shut Photo Collective is the result of a photographic social reportage project which attempts to describe the reality of the various communities and religions that live side-by-side in Rome, in just 35 photos.
“In the name of...” is an attempt to portray, through the plurality of all the religious groups represented, the mosaic of peoples, traditions and spirituality present in the city. Each photograph tells the particular story of a single community and the bond every individual has with his or her own faith. The project also sets out to identify the common thread that unites peoples and religions despite their differences at a time in which living together and integration seem to be a difficult proposition. There are many religious groups represented in the photographs, but Catholics, Orthodox Coptics, Pentacostalists, the Latter Day Saints, Jews, Hindus, Moslems and Buddhists particularly so. An even greater number of communities were involved in the project all of whom allowed the photographers not only to approach them, but also to capture on film intimate moments of their lives, such as during their respective religious services and when they were at prayer. The images provide an insight into those moments that typify and identify the various religious groups including times when they are celebrating and socializing during special festivals such as Easter, New Year, Christmas, Naming ceremonies and those dedicated to particular saints or divinities.
